How to select an injection molding robot?

Time:2025-01-13

The selection of injection molding robots needs to be determined according to the specific application requirements and production environment to meet the requirements of production efficiency, stability and cost control. The following are the main considerations and steps for selection:

1. Clarify the application requirements

Features of injection molding products:

Product weight: The load capacity of the robot needs to be greater than the weight of the injection molded parts.

Product size: Ensure that the robot's stroke can cover the product's removal range.

Product complexity: Complex shapes may require higher precision or multi-axis robots.

Production process: Whether additional functions such as inserts, assembly, and water outlet cutting are required. The speed requirements for removing products, whether rapid molding turnover is required.

Production volume: Mass production requires highly efficient robots, while small-scale production focuses more on flexibility and versatility.

2. Determine the type of robot

Choose the appropriate type of robot according to the specifications and application requirements of the injection molding machine:

Single-arm robot: suitable for simple removal, low cost.

Dual-arm robot: suitable for simultaneous removal of products and water outlets, or multi-piece mold production.

Three-axis robot: provides basic X, Y, and Z axis movements, suitable for most applications.

Five-axis/multi-axis manipulator: can realize complex motion paths, used for high-precision requirements or complex processes.

3. Matching manipulator parameters

Load capacity: ensure that the maximum load of the manipulator (including fixtures and products) is higher than the actual demand.

Travel range: The travel of the X, Y, and Z axes must cover the mold size and removal range.

Removal speed: select the removal time of the manipulator according to the production rhythm (usually 1 second to 3 seconds).

Clamp type: for different product shapes and materials, choose suction cup type, claw type or customized fixture.

4. Technical support

After-sales service: ensure that the manufacturer can provide timely maintenance and technical support.

Compatibility: whether the interface and control system of the manipulator and the injection molding machine match.

5. Economic analysis

Cost and budget: select a cost-effective manipulator on the premise of meeting the needs.

Energy consumption and maintenance: pay attention to the energy consumption level and maintenance cost of the manipulator to save operation and maintenance costs in the long term.

6. Other additional functions

Intelligent functions: whether intelligent functions such as visual recognition and IoT connection are required.

Multi-station operation: When you need to operate multiple stations, you can choose a multi-tasking robot.

When selecting a model, it is recommended to contact a professional robot supplier, provide detailed injection molding machine specifications and production requirements, and let the supplier provide targeted solutions. At the same time, conduct on-site inspections of equipment performance and actual application cases to ensure that the selected robot can adapt to your production scenario.
